McRae Lumber & Manufacturing 1 was built by Vulcan Iron Works in 1927. It has 44" drivers and 16" x 24" cylinders. This standard-gauge oil-burner weighs 104,500 pounds. The cladding has been removed from the boiler and many of the appliances have been removed from the backhead. One peculiarity of this locomotive apparent from the first photo is that the cold water feed is at the top of the boiler between the front sand dome and the stack. The locomotive is now on display near the depot of the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad in Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta, Georgia. | |
